Facebook Timeline has been making waves throughout the Internet.
We all love Facebook.
Due to our growing dependency on this essential, go to, social media drug of choice, we are accustomed to the drama and freaking out when even the slightest change comes our way. That’s why it’s little shock, that the introduction of Facebook Timeline has been such a heated topic.
There has been much back and forth about the brand new Facebook feature; a drastic change of the traditional wall/profile setup millions of users have grown accustomed to. According to the ever insightful Wikipedia, “Timeline was originally offered as an option, but all users will be migrated to the format despite considerable antipathy.”
Despite my personal support for the general business principle, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”; now that Timeline is set to become the Facebook norm, I see no reason in delaying the inevitable. I’ve gone through the necessary steps and have just made the conversion as seamless and beneficial as possible.
For those of you confused by why Facebook, would continuously seek to make changes to its seemingly unbeatable social platform, the answer is clear: Facebook is afraid of becoming irrelevant. Now although at first glance, this may seem like a ridiculous notion, in the rapidly expanding tech sector change happens overnight. This is something that people in charge, like Zuckerberg have a firm grasp on, and his drive to stay relevant, may perpetually upset a few users every here and there, but the adjustments made are clearly one’s well founded on both extensive quantitative and qualitative market research.
In order to make your online social life as painless as possible, I’ve gone through Facebook Timeline and found the features and key points you want to focus on when setting up your own Timeline.
Favorite Features:
- Cover: This simple but clever feature allows you to give your profile a more personalized feel with a larger, wallpaper-like image (in addition to your profile picture). If you’re not too crazy about putting another picture of yourself up for everyone to see, I recommend getting a shot of a place you like, a band you’re into or maybe even a recent event you were at that you’d like others to see about instead.
- Timeline: Although this may seem like a mute point, allow me to explain. The huge advantage timeline gives you, over the traditional Facebook feel is that you can now brush through your entire Facebook lifetime in a breeze. This allows you to delete those less than professional photos of your Freshmen year Spring Break trip, just in time for hiring season. Additionally, it’s a lot of fun to go through and see what you’ve done, who you’ve been in touch with and reminisce about the past.
For those of you who are less than thrilled about this change, the Facebook provided tour of Timeline is quick and actually clairifies many things which are at first glance quite confusing.
Overall, I like Facebook Timeline…please don’t kill me for saying that!
But I really do want to hear what the SheBytes audience has to say on the topic, so feel free to drop us a line!
