File Formats 101: Internet Security

Want the 101 on File Formats?  I’m big on Internet Security, so we’ve got it!  I occasionally get email attachments with file formats I’m unfamiliar with.  Anything outside of the basics, is usually a red flag:

  • .PDF (Adobe)
  • .XLS (Microsoft Excel)
  • .JPG (JPEG, picture file)
  • .TXT (Notepad)

To be sure the attachment is ‘kosher,’ and to avoid a Blue Screen of Death, I’ll often run a Google search on the file type.  During one of my research missions, I came upon a website with a list of nearly every file format in the world!  I thought it would be worth sharing; as it may save you a research mission of your own.  [List of File Formats]
