Looking for tickets to a sold-out concert or other event? You might want to check out Applauze, a new ticket-finding app from 955 Dreams, the masterminds behind Band of the Day.
Applauze doesn’t just let you buy tickets to the sold-out Bieber concert, though (don’t worry, we won’t tell); it also allows you to discover brand new events in your city, personalized to your tastes.
Applauze launched in March in 25 cities, including Atlanta, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, and Seattle. While most ticket-selling apps struggle to find brokers and venues willing to partner, 955 Dreams’ past success with Band of the Day has helped Applauze land deals with over 200 ticket brokers, according to TechCrunch, as well as several individual venues. What does that mean for you, the user? A constantly-updating list of events and even better, special perks for Applauze users, like free drinks and backstage access.
When you open Applauze, you’ll see all events for your location, but you can filter to only see certain types of events, like concerts or sports events. If an event in your city is sold out, Applauze will channel brokers who are selling tickets to find you the best prices. And for those of you whose “best price” is $0? Not to worry: Applauze lists free events as well.
Be aware, though, that if you do decide to pay for tickets to an event, whether it is sold out or not, you’ll pay a marked-up price. Applauze snags a percentage of every ticket sold, a cost that comes out of your pocket. The app is convenient, but if you’re a bargain hunter, you won’t find them here. On the plus side, Applauze is extremely upfront about any extra fees you’ll pay, unlike some apps and broker sites where you don’t find out about processing fees until you check out. So, even though the ticket prices look higher on Applauze, if you do some research, you might find that they’re actually offering the best deal.
If you sign in using Facebook, you also have the option of allowing the app to analyze your behavior, further personalizing your experience within the Applauze app and helping your discover events that might be of interest to you. If you’d rather not let the app access your Facebook profile, you can also choose to sign in with your email address.
Applauze is also downright pretty. It’s an app that is easy to navigate and each event features a large image and a little icon showing the ticket price. Ultimately, 955 Dreams hopes to expand to cities across the United States and even around the world, as well as offer a wider variety of tickets to everything from movies to dining. Will this app be a success? Only time will tell, but with a built-in audience of the over 4.6 million Band of the Day users and solid partnerships in several cities, I’d say they are off to a great start.
