That’s right: Kim Kardashian divorce from Kris Humphries comes after only 72 days of marriage!
Wow, talk about “keeping things brief”…
It seems that indeed, money can’t buy happiness. On the heels of a $10 million dollar wedding, watched by nearly 4 million people, Kim, 31 filed for divorce, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Kim (@KimKardashian), has been in the spotlight since the 2007 reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Although I’ve never even seen one episode, I think overall the image portrayed by Kim publicly is poor at best.
Despite this, Kim now has over 10 million Twitter followers, while her soon-to-be-ex-husband (@KrisHumphries) has over half a million himself.
Now although I don’t find it proper to gloat over the misfortune of others, I do think it’s fascinating to see how modern technology and social media in particular has responded to this divorce.
Twitter, my personal favorite choice of social media platforms, has responded to the Kardashian divorce announcement in a unique way.
CNN’s Entertainment Section, picked up on this cyber activity with the cruel but clever post: “Things Longer than Kim K’s Marriage”.
Here are my top two tweets of things longer than the ephemeral 72 days, of the all too brief Kardashian-Humphries marriage:
- @lizzwinstead: “The flavor in a stick of Fruit Stripe Gum.”
- @AshJed: “Dora the Explorer’s pause, when she is waiting for you to answer her question.”
It’s interesting how platforms of public exchange, like Twitter, open up the conversation on really any issue and gives everyone a say in what’s going on. That being said, it’s crucial we recognize and don’t abuse this power of outreach.
(For those wondering why this post ended up in the “Soul” section, its because I see the Kardashian-Humphries divorce as something which although terrible, is the polar opposite of what a real marriage should be…)
