Kindle fans rejoice. Kindle goes on sale! A new “Kindle with Special Offers” edition is being released by Amazon.
This new Kindle includes all the same features as previous Kindle’s—the same paper-like Pearl electronic-ink display (great even under bright sunlight), same one month battery life, same ultra-light 8.5 ounce weight, but it’s cheaper.
Here’s why: Although they don’t interrupt reading, the device show offers and sponsored screensavers on the screensaver and at the bottom of the home screen. The consumer gets a price break while advertisers make up the difference with Amazon by paying for the advertising on the backend. To make sure you see advertisements relevant only to you, Amazon has implemented a free Kindle app and website (coming soon) called AdMash. Before any advertisements are presented, you first preview them using this new app.
This new Kindle will cost $114. A regular Kindle costs $139. For a cost difference of $25, I prefer no advertisements. What about you?
